Osama Malik

The name of my exhibition is titled storytellers.
Storytelling is an art form in which an artist coveys his thoughts through various mediums. Such mediums can be in different forms, ranging from traditionary methods such as paintings, to a more modern approach such as filmmaking. I took the concept of storytelling and evaluated it through the medium of filmmaking, anime, video gaming and audio touring.
I plan on using the works of Tsugumi Ohba, Hayo Miyazaki, Wes Anderson, Funito Ueda, Chris Kershaw and I.

I decided to do this assignment on the stairs in front of my house. I was surprised to find out how many little sounds I heard. Here are the sounds that I heard.
• Glass door with a spring door stopper.
• Cars passing.
• Cars honking.
• Cars breaking.
• Bus struggling to stop.
• Air pressure being released by the bus.
• Crumbling of Aluminum foil.
• Birds
• High school kids walking by laughing at something.
• Couple arguing as they walk by.
• My ringtone.
• My tenant slamming her door as always.
• My mom parking in the driveway.
• The Shuffling of plastic bags as i help get groceries from the car.
• Shuffling of Keys.
• The occasional gust of wind.

I started off with the idea of working on other assignments for class as I listen to “The Medium is the Massage” on my desktop, but that plan failed in a matter of minutes. In just a few seconds my mind started to wander and had trouble focusing on work at hand. Thoughts such as “oh I think that’s music from Tom and Jerry and Looney tunes”, and “oh that’s so 80’s” went through my mind, almost as if, if I knew where all the sound bites came from I would be able to decode or actually be able to understand “The Medium is the Massage” . Soon after “The Medium is the Massage” eventually just became background music to my work but sadly that did not last long. Realizing that I would be unable to fully focus on my work, I used “The Medium is the Massage” as an excuse to procrastinate and browse the net while I wait for it to finish.
